Simple Flower Hexagon

Flowers and hexagons seem to be a perfect combination. They can be easily turned into beautiful pillows or become a part of larger projects such as cosy blankets. This particular hexagon with a flowery motif in the centre is very easy and fast to make.

Recommended yarn: Scheepjes Catona

Recommended hook size: 3.5mm

Finished size: approx. 11cm

Abbreviations (US terms)

sc – single crochet

hdc – half double crochet

dc – double crochet

tr – treble

fpsc –front post single crochet

fphdc – front post half double crochet

fpdc – front post double crochet

fptr – front post treble

bp – back post

ch – chain

st(s) – stitch(es)

sk- skip

st – stitch

slst – slip stitch

cl –cluster

sp – space

Special Stitches:

cluster – 3dc together, ch1 to close the cluster

picot – chain 3, insert your hook into the 1st chain, close with a slst

Round 1

start with a magic ring, dc cluster, ch2, dc cluster…repeat till you have 6 clusters and 6 ch2 sp, join with a slst

[6 clusters, 6ch2]

Round 2

fpsc around any cluster from the previous round, [2sc, ch6, 2sc in the ch2sp], fpsc around the next cluster…repeat, join with a slst

[6ch2, 24sc, 6fpsc]

Round 3

fpsc around any fpsc from the previous round, [7dc, ch2, 7dc in the ch6sp], fpsc around the next fpsc…repeat, join with a slst

[6 petals]

Round 4

bpsc around any fpsc from the previous round, hdc in each of the next 6 dc spaces (remember to make each of them in the space between dcs not in the dc stitches, there should be 6 hdc on each side of the petal), [sc, picot, sc in the ch2sp], hdc in each of the next 6 dc spaces…repeat, join with a slst

[72hdc, 6bpsc, 6picots, 12sc]

Round 5

bpsc in the 5th hdc of the petal (counting from any bpsc from the previous round), ch3, [sk hdc, sc, picot, sc, hdc], bpsc in the next hdc, ch6, bphdc in the 5th hdc of the next petal…repeat, join with a slst

[6ch6, 6ch3, 12bpsc]

Round 6

[standing sc in any ch6sp, 4dc, ch2, 4dc, sc], [2dc, dc joined with the picot from the previous round, 2dc in the next ch3sp], …repeat, join with a slst

Round 7

fpdc around any picot dc from the previous round, ch2, [skip 2dc, sc], bpdc in the next dc, ch3, sk 2dc, bpsc in the next dc, ch3, sk 2dc, bpdc in the next dc, ch2, fpdc around the next picot dc…repeat, join with a slst

Round 8

start from any ch3sp after bpsc from the previous round
