Traveller’s Joy Granny Square

Granny squares are one of my favorite patterns to crochet. They are not only extremely fast and easy to make but also versatile, thus, suitable for lots of various projects. If you are looking for a flowery texture, I hope you find this pattern worth a try.

Recommended yarn: ScheepiesStone Washed XL
Recommended hook size: 5mm
Finished size: approx. 18cm

Abbreviations (US terms)
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
tr – treble crochet
fpsc – front post single crochet
fphdc – front post half double crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
fptr – front post treble
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sk- skip
st – stitch
sl st – slip stitch
sp – space
R – round
cl – cluster

Special stitches:

cluster – 3dc together, ch1 to close the cluster

Round 1

start with a magic circle, ch2 (counts as the first dc), 2 more dc to form a cluster, ch2, cl…repeat, close with a sl st

fpsc around any dc cluster from the previous round, (2sc, ch5, 2sc in the ch2 sp)…repeat, join with a sl st

you will work the stitches in the spaces between groups of 2sc from the previous round
